How is it made?

Karndean is a vinyl flooring product manufactured from calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinyl chloride and pigments. It has a five layer structure comprising of two PVC backing layers, one high definition photographic (printed) layer, a single clear PVC embossed wear layer and a top polyurethane protective coating.

What is gluedown?

Gluedown is a format of luxury vinyl flooring that is fixed to a perfectly flat and dry subfloor using adhesive. Karndean’s gluedown ranges offer their widest choice of colours and formats. Features such as textured emboss or their premium handscraped finish, wide bevels or flat edges make each range unique to Karndean and serve to highlight the faithful replication of the original wood and stone that inspired each of our products.

When to use gluedown?

You want to create your floor, with different laying patterns, design strips and decorative borders.
You want to be able to mix stone and wood designs and create a completely bespoke floor.
You have a completely flat, dry subfloor, prepared by a flooring professional.

What is loose lay?

Loose lay is a format of luxury vinyl flooring featuring Karndean’s K-Wave friction grip backing that holds the product in place. It creates a strong bond to the subfloor using a combination of weight and friction.

Perfect for temporary and permanent use, Karndean LooseLay is ideal if you are interested in changing out the flooring frequently or want to reduce sound passing to rooms below.

The construction of Karndean’s loose lay product offers effective noise transfer by 13dB making it a perfect acoustic solution for bedrooms, loft conversions, flats and apartments.

Due to the innovative K-Wave friction grip backing, Karndean loose lay products can be laid directly over most existing, level, smooth hard floors with minimal subfloor preparation.
